Is it a crime to use a quote ina text message without quotations?

I used a quote to cover up my identity in a text and it was considered a threat but tis not my words just a quote i used to cover up who i was. The quote is "I am the punishment of god, if you had not of commited great sins god would have not have sent a punishment like me upon you." its Ganghis Kahn i believe.|||The fact that it is a quote does not make it illegal, but if it is interpreted with the rest of the message as a threat, then the fact that it is a quote won't save you either.|||I don't think it is illegal. It is just not good grammer. The reader may be confused as to who said what or what you might actually be trying to say.
