I know someone who is in the process of getting kicked out of the Army for drugs, drinking, and stealing. They never actually court martialed him, just arrested him and let him go. They feel it is better to discharge him.
His parents are so upset and have told him that he can't come home because they have been struggling with this for about 5yrs. Is he ever going to have a chance at a productive life?|||The Truth is that None of the Discharge types
mentioned can ever be Upgraded...ever.
A DHD or a BCD is as bad as it gets.
He is lucky that he is Not in the Brig for years.
Of course he can never get any
VA or GI Benefits ever...
It will be like he has a Felony Record
for the rest of his life...
Good happy to hear that they told him
not to come home...as he would end
up stealing everything worth while to
feed his Drug Habit...
Sounds like he just blew his second chance.|||A dishonorable discharge is a characterization of service. Either it's Honorable ( gets va benefits) ir dishonorable ( no va benefit's).
Bad Conduct discharges are reserved for those that commit offenses in the military that are felony's for civilians. They come complete with a reenlistment code of RE-4 meaning they can never, ever join the armed forces again and are ineligible for any federal employment.
This guy blew his last chance at a normal life by getting a BCD and Dishonorable Discharge for his substance abuse and theft.
I feel bad for the parents and know if they had been struggeling with this he has already been to rehab a few times. Chances are this one will be nothing but a disappointment and a financial drain on the parents. Until the day when the kids winds up in jail or prison.|||Ouch! This man may never hold a decent job again in his life. Neither discharge will afford him educational benefits, nor will a government job be possible for him. Both discharges are punitive in nature. If the soldier was discharged without a court martial then he must have committed a serious crime under either state or federal jurisdiction. In that case he may face prison time after discharge.|||A BCD (or "Big Chicken Dinner") is extremely hard, if not outright impossible, to shake. If I recall correctly a DD can eventually be upgraded to an OTH (Other Than Honorable) but I might be mistaken.
The person you know ****** himself good, and now he's gonna get to tote that around. Better him than me. He obviously didn't learn a damned thing about what that uniform means.|||You mean another chance?
Yes he will always have a chance, but it doesn't sound like he is ready to take it.
