Is the word racism used ina similar way to'heretc'in the 16th century or maybe Communism in the macarthy 1950'?

Thus stopping discussion and paralysed thinking with the emotive words like 'racism' or 'xenophobe'thus halting discussion?|||I think the word Racism is used in the same way as "Heretic" was used in the 16th century. It was used then to make people tow the line if they didn't they were put to death, fortunately we are not quite at that stage just yet but, on the other hand if we speak out publicly against the Muslim religion, Shira courts,or I want Easter shown on our Calenders we may lose our jobs, be refused jobs, taken to court and have a criminal record.

People who call others racist have no valid argument and are only trying to frighten the gullible and those who are too weak to stand up for their OWN rights. As for this Government who are legally changing our culture, the more immigrants the more power they have.|||Yeah and "Witch"|||I've never seen it used here without full justification.|||I would suggest the word "Anti-American" or "America-hater" or "Blame America Firster."

Those are all overused. |||This does seem to be the case. This is probably due to the money being made by many people who are determined to hold on to the 'ethnic minority' tag.

Many people in the legal profession seem to be doing very well out of this issue at present.

It will pass, and be replaced by something else.|||Yes very much so.|||You know you have made your point when they call you a racist|||No, but illegal is |||Nope

We are all free to discuss race, immigration, terrorism, religion etc

The problems start to arise when racist language is used.

Take a look on this site as an example - so many people make comments and observations on the Muslim faith (yes i'm afraid i am going to use that old chestnut) their comments can start out as quite serious and understandable concerns about some extremist Mullah or other who wants to exhort violence against the west, Fair enough! But the problems start when this turns into an attack on the Muslim religion in general ( i can practically guarantee that some prat will do exactly this in at least one of the answers you get). Before you know it every Muslim in the UK is a terrorist and is claiming benefits and bringing in his entire family of 200 - not forgetting his 20 wives who he beats everyday.

Is any of this sounding familiar?

Intelligent people have intelligent discussions. In an intelligent discussion you can make an observation regarding the removal of an extremist from our society without fear of being branded a racist. What you don't do in an intelligent debate is make an insulting, intolerant, disrespectful comment on an entire faith or race based on the actions of a few.|||You might have a point there|||The race card is getting really over used in this country. In the 50 and 60 black Americans fought like hell to describe the injustices and hate that filled the south. Years later after all this healing that black Americans and white Americans have done together we now throw the word around as if it were a grenade and can stop any on coming offensive. It is truly sick that a race can use the word as a talking point to avoid any real discussion or debate... |||Words like "racism, neo nazi, insurgent or anarchist"are used by the powers that be to label any group or individual who they know has a valid point to make that goes against their view of how the world should be.These labels are used to stifle any debate put forward that challenges their version of the "truth" by inferring in the mind of the majority, who lets face it prefer computer games and soap operas to any real political debate, that these "deviants"have some evil ulterior motive behind their thoughts and actions.I am not a racist but a realist and if we cannot debate the real issues that we all know exist then we are opening the door to real extremism and eventually chaos|||Racism does seem to be generally a bad thing.

Or do you think it is okay to exclude people from jobs because of their ethnic origin?

Or to make unfounded judgments about people based on the colour of their skin?|||FUNDAMENT,I THINK YOU WILL FIND LITTLE EVIDENCE OF 'COLOUR OF THEIR SKIN'S'BEING THE MAIN ISSUE HERE,MUCH MORE COMPLEX ISSUES LIKE RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY BY BOTH SIDES AND AN INSISTENCE OF RAMMING DOWN THE BRITIS THROATS THAT ISLAM IS SOME HOW ON THE HIGH MORAL CRUSADE AND CHRISTAN THINKERS AND WORSHIPPERS ARE SECOND CLASS AND OUTDATED.IV'E NOT YET HEARD OF ANY CRISTIANS,JEWS,OR OTHER RELIGIOUS GROUPS TERRORISE PEOPLE IN TH UK OR ANY OTHER CIVILISED COUNTRY
